SEA.AI Sailing Software Update V8.0: A New Release With Smarter Detection

Trust every alarm and see more of what's ahead: SEA.AI Sailing Software Update V8.0 brings a smarter color camera AI, a wider usable camera view, and a cleaner, more intuitive interface.

SEA.AI Sailing Software Update V8.0 has been rolled out for its Offshore and Competition collision prevention systems, used across the sailing world, from family cruising to short-handed offshore racing.

For sailors, the payoff is straightforward: fewer false alarms to second-guess, a wider view of what is ahead, and an app that finally feels the same across every SEA.AI system.

This SEA.AI sailing software release is built around three priorities:

  1. a smarter color camera AI model
  2. a wider usable camera view
  3. a redesigned interface that brings the app in line with the rest of the SEA.AI product family.

What's new in SEA.AI Sailing Software Update v8.0

  • Improved color camera AI model. More reliable detections and fewer false positives, so you trust an alarm the first time you see it.
  • Camera cropping. A larger, clearer view on screen, without losing track of anything just outside the frame.
  • New design layout. A cleaner, more intuitive interface, redesigned to match the rest of the SEA.AI lineup.
  • Updated map. More context on where you are and what you are looking at.
  • Native apps for iOS and Android, plus new macOS and Windows compatibility. Run SEA.AI on whichever device is already at the helm.
  • Light theme, adjustable display scale, and temporary alarm mute durations. A display that adapts to your conditions and your preferences, not the other way around.

Improved color camera AI model: fewer false alarms, more trust in every detection

UI Improvements on new SEA.AI Sailing Software

The most significant change in this release is a new AI model for the color camera sensor.

It improves detection performance and reduces false positives, which means fewer nuisance alerts pulling your attention away from the helm and more confidence that when the system does raise an alarm, it is worth acting on.

For crews standing watch on long offshore legs, that translates directly into less alarm fatigue and more trust in the system during the hours that matter most.

Camera cropping: see more of what is ahead, without losing what is outside the frame

The camera view is now cropped to better fit the app screen, giving you a larger, clearer image of what is directly ahead, exactly where your attention is already focused.

You are not trading awareness for that clarity: objects outside the visible area are still analyzed by the AI and flagged with an arrow pointing in their direction, so you keep full situational awareness even beyond what is on screen.

A refreshed design: less relearning, more consistency across your SEA.AI systems

The app’s design has been updated to match the look and feel of other SEA.AI products, including SEA.AI Competition and SEA.AI Offshore hardware interfaces.

If you already know one SEA.AI system, you already know this one: the more intuitive, more dynamic interface means less time relearning menus and more time watching the water.

An updated map: sharper context at a glance

Version 8.0 introduces an updated map view aimed at giving you clearer, steadier context on your surroundings.

Also new in this release, and the convenience each one adds

  • Mobile apps. The SEA.AI app is now available for Android and iOS, alongside desktop, so you can check in on your system from whichever device is closest to hand.
  • macOS and Windows compatibility. The app now runs on desktop platforms as well as mobile, useful for planning and reviewing at the nav station.
  • Light theme. A new Light theme joins the existing Dark and Night themes, so the display stays easy on the eyes in bright daylight, not just after dark.
  • Display scale. Choose between Compact, Default, and Large interface sizes to match your screen and your eyesight.
  • Temporary mute duration. Alarms can now be muted for 30, 60, or 120 minutes at a time, handy when you need a quiet stretch without turning alerts off for the whole watch.

This builds on the improvements introduced in the previous Offshore & Competition v7.3 update, which focused on thermal detection accuracy and alarm management.

Where to download this update

As a major update, SEA.AI Sailing Software Update V8.0 has to be installed through the knowledge base first. Once that update is done, the mobile app takes over for any future updates.

  • Knowledge base (required for this update). Install the update through the knowledge base for your system: Offshore or Competition
  • Mobile app (for future updates). After version 8.0 is installed, download the app on Google Play for Android or the App Store for iOS. From then on, you will be able to download any new updates through the app itself.
