Former French Navy Submarine Officer Olivier Jacques Joins SEA.AI

Olivier Jacques, a former French Navy submarine officer, joins us as Sales Manager France to support our growing defence business.

Olivier Jacques has joined us as Sales Manager France. A former French Navy submarine officer with 27 years of service, he will support our growing work with naval forces, maritime security organisations, and autonomous systems operators.

His appointment answers rising demand from naval and security operators for passive machine vision at sea.

Why are we expanding in defence

Naval forces are adopting autonomous platforms, advanced sensors, and AI-powered systems to improve situational awareness and operational decision-making.

We are strengthening our defence presence to meet that demand, starting with a dedicated sales lead for our French entity.

Who is Olivier Jacques

Olivier Jacques served 27 years in the French Navy, 20 of them in the Submarine Forces, where he built extensive operational and leadership experience.

In the latter part of his military career, he worked on defence innovation initiatives with the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA). That work gave him direct insight into how operational requirements meet emerging technologies.

What Machine Vision adds to naval sensors suite

Our systems combine EO/IR sensing, edge computing, and machine vision to deliver real-time visual intelligence directly onboard. Processing imagery at the edge strengthens Maritime Domain Awareness and adds a perception layer for ISR, remote, and autonomous operations.

Machine vision complements radar, AIS, and other onboard sensors. It detects and classifies surface objects that other technologies may miss or struggle to detect: small craft, people in the water, and other non-cooperative or low-signature targets. The result is a more complete picture of activity at sea, for crewed and uncrewed platforms alike.

Originally developed for offshore racing, our machine vision now runs on more than 1,300 vessels and maritime infrastructure sites across recreational, commercial, and professional applications.

In their own words

“Demand from the defence market is increasing significantly. Naval operators are looking for new ways to strengthen situational awareness across both crewed and autonomous platforms. Olivier brings operational experience together with a strong understanding of how defence programmes are developed and procured. This combination will be invaluable as we expand our presence in this market.”
Marcus Warrelmann (CEO, SEA.AI) and Olivier Jacques (Sales Manager France, SEA.AI)
“Throughout my career in the French Navy and the defence industry, I have been driven by a common ambition: bridging the gap between operational needs and technological innovation. As maritime operations become increasingly complex, I firmly believe that AI-powered machine vision will play a key role in enhancing situational awareness, supporting decision-making and strengthening maritime security. I am excited to join SEA.AI and contribute to bringing these innovative capabilities to naval and security operators.”
